[Xbox 360] Microsoft Could Be Planning $100 Price Cut For Xbox 360
Posted by Ashish on 07.26.2006

Reports out of Taiwan claim that Microsoft is strongly considering lowering the price of the Xbox 360 premium pack $100 to $299. Taiwanese tech site Digitimes.com claims that Microsoft has negotiated deals with companies that make Xbox 360 parts to reduce the costs by some 20%. The cut in costs is attributed to increased production, decreasing rate of defective parts, and general price deflation of raw materials. The reason for the price cut seems obvious. With the holidays around the corner and the PlayStation 3 arriving soon with a hefty price tag, Microsoft is hoping to secure the Xbox 360 as the #1 next-gen console. The report also claims that Microsoft will offer a Xbox 360 premium bundle with an external HD-DVD drive for $399.

Of course, Microsoft has yet to confirm any of this and stated not too long ago that there would be no price drop for the Xbox 360 this year, so take this all with a grain of salt.
